"We, humans, are unique as a storytelling species. We perceive the world in narrative form and literacy is one of the most important gifts we teach our children. The Rocky Mountain Book Award is an excellent program for developing literacy because it encourages young adults to read a variety of genres by Canadian authors and helps them cultivate and sustain their love of reading.

Michael Pollard
Associate Professor of Education
University of Lethbridge
